JOB PURPOSE:

Supporting Viatels customers, network infrastructure and datacentre environment, from Viatels 24x7 Network Operations Centre (NOC) in Blanchardstown, Dublin.



PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Providing quality support for corporate customers, updating and resolving customer faults within SLA, and in a professional manner.

• Monitoring and proactive support of all devices within Viatel’s Pan-European Network including but not limited to:

 Voice Network (Cirpack / Digitalk)

 Fibre Network (Adtran / Cisco / Huawei)

 Microwave Radio Network (Ceragon / Ubiquity)

 Copper Infrastructure (Adtran / Cisco / Huawei)

 Datacentre Environment (Dell / Cisco)

 Core Network (Cisco / Juniper)

• Must be sufficiently competent to configure and troubleshoot network devices.

• Perform routine tasks and maintenance including environmental monitoring.

• Perform shift handover, detailing any outstanding issues which require attention.

• Opening quality tickets and following the correct incident management procedures to own, track, report, and document resolution of problems.

• Effective control and ownership of network change requests, through the change processes, measured by the impact on service availability.

• Occasionally handle hands and eyes & access requests from datacentre customers.



REQUIREMENTS AND EXPERIENCE:

• Previous experience in network support essential

• Experience in SIP / VoIP support a bonus

• Ability to operate on a 24x7x365 shift rota

• Support experience or previous NOC experience with another ISP / Telco is preferable

• Third level qualification an advantage



TECHNICAL SKILLS:

• CCNA accreditation preferable, however not essential

• Knowledge of network technologies (fibre / radio /copper) is essential

• Knowledge of SIP and VoIP is a bonus

• Experience in using network monitoring tools preferable



PERSONAL SKILLS:

• An ability to identify priorities and manage their time effectively, taking accountability for resolving customer/network events speedily and right first time.

• An ability to understand and speak fluent English so that you are able to explain technical concepts to colleagues and customers.

• The ability to work effectively within a team, i.e. sharing knowledge, offering help etc…

• Excellent interpersonal skills, an effective negotiator and communicator, able to deal with people at all levels both within and outside the business.

• Ability to work in isolation when working night-shift.

• Commitment to learning and development of creative support solutions.
