  Job Description  

In this position, you will form part the Network Operations team, providing provisioning and support of Viatels customer services. You will also become part of the on-call rota, responsible for out of hour’s carrier faults, change requests and fraud prevention.


• Provisioning of new IP and Voice services for customers, including upgrades and changes where necessary

• Escalated troubleshooting of IP and Voice faults on the Viatel network

• Implementation, testing, reporting and maintenance of infrastructure security

• New services development, design, test and rollout

• Administering, monitoring, and optimising networks and services

• Programming and scripting as required to improve efficiency of working

• Reporting, planning, administration and analysis relating to all network and service activities of the company as required

• Customer and pre-sales support, including documentation of networks and solutions

• Training and assisting other technical teams, specifically on the Voice infrastructure and its configuration and capabilities, and preparation of associated technical documentation



• A minimum of 2 years’ experience in an ISP, carrier, managed services provider or system integrator environment.

• Experience in dealing with customers on a technical level for delivery of premium business services.

• Practical and hands-on understanding of Cisco, Juniper and Huawei equipment (routers, switches and firewalls) with particular emphasis on management and provisioning of MPLS, Ethernet and DSL services.

• Previous experience in SIP / VoIP services at a carrier level is essential for this role.

• Experience in Cirpack voice platform is an advantage.

• Experience in scripting languages and automation is a distinct advantage.

• Linux experience an advantage.

• Knowledge of security standards and procedures.

• Experience of configuring and troubleshooting of Cisco/Juniper routers and switches.

• Extensive understanding of TCP/IP and associated protocols.

• Experience in using ancillary network tools like Nagios, Radius, Cacti and other monitoring / troubleshooting tools (Wireshark, iPerf, etc.).

• Ability to work on own initiative without constant supervision.

• Ability to liaise with customers and to capture relevant information for more complex technical installations.


• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

• Ability to work around issues and be creative as regards problem solving.

• Experience in progress reporting to management.

• Ability to multitask across multiple projects.

• Strong self-motivation and a positive work ethic.

• Ability to communicate technical information to non-technical staff and customers.

• Willingness to travel on occasion.

• Must be dependable & flexible and willing to work independently or as part of a team.

• Good documentation skills.

• Must be able to participate on an on-call team roster system for out of hours support.

• Must be comfortable directly dealing with customers to resolve issues promptly.

Position: Full time

Location: Dublin, Blanchardstown with occasional travel to other Network or Customer sites.

Whilst the vast majority of this work is done locally from Dublin, there may be a requirement for occasional Irish and European travel.
