Job Purpose: This role is plays a key part in ensuring that the Company’s operations are available, effective and efficient for both internal and external customers. You will oversee the infrastructure estate, responding to alerts, running maintenance routines, patching software, managing capacity, deploying new equipment, and ensuring that hardware and application availability is maximised. We operate in a 24x7 environment servicing our customers, and it is essential that our IT systems support the rest of business in this aim. You will need to be flexible enough to respond to unforeseen circumstances, and speedy in devising fixes to operational problems as they arise. You will need to be abreast of new technologies and comfortable with the changes that they may bring – you may well be the key advocate for their deployment into the organisation.

Comfortable with operating to tight timescales, you will also be able to develop novel solutions to routine workloads, automating responses and activities, so that the IT systems and services can operate as independently as possible. You will be able to demonstrate where you have previously improved a past operating environment in this way, and how your contribution made the IT organisation better all round.


Duties & Responsibilities:

• Day to day support of the ICT Infrastructure including mobiles, desktop, laptops, printers, servers, switches, phones, storage, and security.
• Desktop and application support: Windows 7 & Windows 10, and associated software applications.
• Installing, configuring and troubleshooting computer hardware, operating systems and applications.
• Managing support calls (both local and remote) from end users via different channels: helpdesk system, email, voicemail, telephone or in person.
• Daily monitoring of server health and performance, server space, backup jobs.
• Daily support of Active Directory, maintenance & management of Windows Server (all versions) [All versions], and Microsoft Exchange server.
• Administration of Anti Virus systems, deployment and updates.
• Application of security updates and patches to servers and clients as required.
• Manage daily/weekly Backups and Restore, ensuring they are complete and any issues resolved.
• Source new solutions where required & negotiate with suppliers.
• Maintain & update policies, procedures and document environment configurations, disaster recovery procedures, etc.
• Automate routine procedures to allow faster resolution of issues, greater customer satisfaction.
• Ability to work closely with other internal groups to deploy solutions in a timely fashion.



Qualifications & Experience Required:

3rd level degree in Computer Science, or equivalent IT qualification essential, with 3+ years’ experience in majority of the following;

• Proven ability in server & PC hardware builds.
• Experience working with a virtualised environment (Vmware and Xen).
• Strong knowledge of Microsoft Operating Systems, AD and business software, especially Microsoft Exchange.
• Familiarity with networking (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, STP, addressing) etc.
• Understanding of Raid levels, benefits, configurations.
• Experience of PBX, ISDN, VOIP and TDM technologies.
• Familiarity with both analogue & IP phone systems, configuration & deployment.
• Strong working knowledge of PC hardware, software and peripherals.
• Sound understanding of LAN networks and their infrastructure.
• Knowledge of UNIX/Linux.
• Knowledge of MS SQL server, MySQL systems advantageous.
• Excellent communication & interpersonal skills with ability to communicate technical information to non-technical staff.
• Familiarity with operating applications and workloads in cloud environments (private and public) advantageous.
• Ability to work around issues and be creative with problem solving.
• Experience with Microsoft 365 would be beneficial.
• Must be dependable & flexible with strong self-motivation and work ethic.
• Occasional travel and out-of-hours work may be required.
